The European Commission is proposing a new law to strengthen whistleblower protection across the EU
The European Commission has adopted a package of measures to protect whistleblowers reporting breaches of EU law. The package includes a proposal for a new Directive that would protect not just employees but freelancers, consultants, suppliers, job applicants and others from any form of retaliation for reporting or disclosing information on violations of EU law that they observe in their work-related activities. The new Directive would also exempt them from liability for disclosing the information. The Commission has invited feedback on the proposal.
