Publication of the revised 2020 Belgian Code on Corporate Governance postponed
Due to the collapse of the government, at the last minute the Federal Parliament did not adopt the bill introducing a new Companies and Associations Code. As the proposed 2020 Code is closely linked to the new Companies and Associations Code (including through the option to introduce the dual governance system), we have been forced to indefinitely postpone the publication of the final version of the 2020 Code.
Should the new Companies and Associations Code indeed be adopted in the current legislative period, we will do everything we can to publish the final version of the 2020 Code as quickly as possible. We will take all action needed to obtain recognition by Royal Decree, which would make the 2020 Code the new benchmark for Belgian listed companies.
If the new Companies and Associations Code fails to be adopted, we will have to revise the proposed 2020 Code to align it with the current Companies Code.
